WALL STREET – REVIEW

Monday, September 27th, 2010

What can I say? This movie was not as good I thought it was going to be. If you like when new movies lend themselves to the late 80′s/90′s in terms of cinematography then you might like it more. I personally don’t care either way but I thought Wall Street had more weird/cheezy Batman and Full House tv show esq scenes and transitions than it had great ones. Thanks Ollie. At least you can’t knock Stone’s work ethic; he directs what seems like two movies a year now. The characters were interesting of course considering the great cast. The young blood definitely held their own, but for all intents and purposes Michael Douglas and Josh Brolin are really the ones who make it worth it. The love scenes were sweet, mostly lame, but mannnn Carrie Mulligan is so precious…and of course you know our boy Boof does it again! Burt Fox (not the Don’t Cry Records DJ), I mean Charlie Sheen also with a small but forgettable cameo. Overall it had some moments but not enough of them. Top of the box office though (19 million in the first weekend). Guess money never really does sleep…does it? except when it’s yours and in a coma. 2/5

LIVE FROM NY

Hit up 88 Palace Friday night for the Cubic Zirconia/Hudson Mohawke show with other special guests like Machine Drum and Eclaire Fifi. This place is in Chinatown and a real crazy spot to have a show and you could possibly cop some official Chinese food (not fried rice) earlier in the evening. Poppin off. Didn’t take too many shots. got caught up in the mix and the other ones were mad fuzzy and I know why.

Hudson Mohawke and the whole Lucky Me me posse came out to NY from the UK to rep and rage. Good people and good vibes when worlds collide. We popped bottles, talked about future projects, and did it up proper.

MACHETE – REVIEW

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

“This movie is sick!,” is what I heard from behind me every time something outlandish and ridiculous happened, which was about every 10 minutes. I couldn’t help but agree with the kid pretty much every time. Written and directed by Robert Rodriguez, this is campiest yet entertaining movie I have seen this year. What started as a short trailer between Death Proof and Planet Terror (also directed by Rodriguez) in Grindhouse, comes Machete, played by Danny Trejo, ex-federal agent killing machine on a mission to get vengeance for his family and who is set up by Jeff Fahey (AKA Lapidus from LOST!!) to bring down corrupt politician John McLaughlin, played by Robert De Niro. Machete is the Mexican version of Shaft; reckless, violent, tortured vigilante and full time ladies man. Special ladies with significant supporting roles include Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez (her washboard for a stomach is worth every minute), and Lindsey Lohan, who I thought looked incredible. Steven Seagal plays Torres, arch-enemy and evil drug lord responsible for kidnapping Machete’s family, setting up the whole plot from the gate. With a memorable Cheech Marin performance Machete is bad-ass, hilarious, and everything I could have asked for and more from a gory ass Mexican Grindhouse film…but don’t expect an Oscar here. 4/5
